Loreta "Lor" Fresnedi, wife of incumbent Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi, yesterday filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) at the local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office.
Loreta, a banker, will run as a mayoralty candidate under the Lakas-CMD party. She will try her hand in politics and public service as Fresnedi is about to end his three-year term as local chief executive.
Joining Mrs. Fresnedi in the Lakas-CMD slate is former television host Ricardo "Dong" Puno, who will be the party’s bet for the congressional race.
Puno filed his COC at the Comelec-National Capital Region office.
Temy Simundac will be Mrs. Fresnedi’s running mate. There are 16 others who will run as councilors in the city’s two districts.
Before running for city mayor, Mrs. Fresnedi was chairperson of the city’s Clean and Green program. She also helped her husband in various projects such as the feeding program for the poor, beautification of the environment, activities for the advancement of women’s causes, among others.
Mrs. Fresnedi said that if she wins, she will continue the projects started by her husband. Several of these projects aim for the continuous development of Muntinlupa so that it will eventually be recognized as the lead business hub in Asia in 2020.
Meanwhile, the city’s incumbent Vice Mayor Aldrin San Pedro, a former businessman, also filed his COC yesterday. He will run for mayor under the PMP-UNO political party.
San Pedro’s running mates are Ruffy Biazon who is seeking re-election as congressman, Councilor Rene Carl Cayetano for vice mayor, and 15 other hopefuls for council seats.
San Pedro, a former businessman, was first elected to the city council before becoming vice mayor. He previously ran under the ticket of Mayor Fresnedi before joining the opposition team as their vice mayoralty bet.
In Pasay City, former vice mayor Greg Alcera also filed his COC yesterday at the local Comelec office. He will be running as vice mayoralty bet of the Liberal Party-Partido Liberal. His partymates include congressional candidates Atty. Harry Roque, who is representing the Drilon Wing, and Lorna Verano Yap for the Atienza wing.
