Fires hit Las Piñas

- Rhodina Villanueva -
Two fire incidents were reported yesterday in at least two residential areas in Las Piñas City.

Arson investigators of the Las Piñas Fire Station said that a lighted candle left unattended inside a house located at No. 4 Lagman Street, BF Resort Subdivision triggered a blaze at around 12:40 a.m. yesterday.

The candle, which was reportedly left on top of a piano, could have tumbled.

The fire reached the first alarm and damaged several portions of the house owned by Jennie Aragon, 35.

Several appliances were also razed.

At least five firetrucks were sent to the area to contain the blaze.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Roberto Nolan said the fire was declared out at around 1:40 a.m.

No one was injured in the incident.

The estimated damage to properties was P1.5 million.

Meanwhile, the attic of a house in Casimiro Townhomes, Admiral Village, Las Piñas, was also hit by a fire.

However, the blaze lasted only for 14 minutes since firemen immediately arrived at the fire scene.

The two areas were among those without electricity since Typhoon "Milenyo" hit the country last Thursday.

Majority of the affected residents in the area have been using candles while power is not yet restored.
