Manila, Philippines — Mindanao is expected to experience rain showers on Sunday due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), while the southwest monsoon or habagat has slightly weakened in many parts of the Philippines.

PAGASA observed the presence of thick clouds looming over the southern parts of the country, signaling potential weather disturbances.

State weather specialist Daniel James Villamil reported on Sunday that cloudy skies accompanied by scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur in Mindanao within the next few hours.

“Bahagyang humina ang epekto ng habagat sa malaking bahagi ng ating bansa subalit makikita natin sa latest satellite images ang mga kaulapan sa southern portion ng ating bansa, partikular na sa Mindanao area,” Villamil said.

“Ang mga kaulapan na ito ay associated sa ITCZ, ito ay ang pagsasalubong ng hangin mula sa northern at southern hemisphere,” he added.

Moderate to occasionally heavy rains in the Mindanao may be experienced, warning of potential flash floods and landslides.

Residents in Metro Manila and other parts of the Philippines can expect generally fair weather, although isolated rain showers and localized thunderstorms remain possible.

PAGASA said that it has not detected any low pressure area or adverse weather conditions within or outside the Philippine area of responsibility.

Though PAGASA has not issued any gale warnings for the seaboards, coastal waters will be slight to moderate throughout the country.
