MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-four self-service check-in kiosks with facial recognition system have been installed at departure lobbies of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. said the kiosks, powered by Collins Aerospace, would speed up check-in procedures and prevent congestion at airline counters.

Other improvements at the airport include the reconfiguration of aircraft parking stands, expansion of taxiway movement and removal of abandoned aircraft.

The NNIC yesterday enforced higher terminal fees: P950, from P550, for international passengers and P390, from P200, for domestic travelers.

Since taking over the NAIA operations last year, the NNIC has remitted P48.3 billion to the government, including a P30-billion upfront payment, with 82 percent of revenues going directly to the state.

“Operating an airport the size and scale of NAIA will always be demanding. But what this first year has shown is that with teamwork, discipline and dedication of our people, real change is possible,” NNIC president Ramon Ang said.
