8,004 new COVID-19 cases, 92 deaths logged in past week
MANILA, Philippines — There were 8,004 additional COVID-19 infections recorded from November 14 to 20, the Department of Health said Monday.
The number of cases averaged 1,143 in the past week, the DOH said in its latest bulletin. The figure was 12% lower than the number of infections logged from November 7 to 13.
Only two of the new cases had severe and critical illness.
The health department also reported that there are 568 patients with severe and critical conditions, representing 9.4% of the total COVID-19 admissions in the country.
Of the 2,358 beds in intensive care units across the archipelago, only 20.9% were occupied as of Sunday. Meanwhile, only 23.1% of 20,754 non-ICU beds were used.
The DOH also verified 93 deaths in the past week. Twenty-eight of those deaths occurred from November 7 to 20.
More than 73.7 million people have completed vaccination against COVID-19 since the rollout began in March 2021. However, only 20.86 million people have gotten booster shots.
The United States will donate $5 million (P286.81 million) to accelerate the COVID-19 vaccination rollout in the Philippines, Douglas Emhoff — US Vice President Kamala Harris' husband — announced during his visit in Caloocan City Monday.
Emhoff said the aid is seen to "intensify and strengthen this country’s wall of immunity" against COVID-19. — Gaea Katreena Cabico
