Vaccine czar Galvez tests positive for COVID-19
MANILA, Philippines — Chief policy implementer of the National Task Force against COVID-19 Carlito Galvez Jr. has tested positive for the coronavirus following his weekly RT-PCR test, prompting him and his family to stay in isolation.
“I wish to inform our countrymen that I have tested positive for COVID-19 after undergoing my weekly RT-PCR (reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction) test on Sunday, May 22. I am experiencing mild symptoms but remain in high spirits. Members of my immediate family and I are fully vaccinated and have received the booster shot. All of us are under isolation,” the concurrent presidential adviser on the peace process said in a statement.
Galvez asked all the individuals who came into contact with him over the last five to seven days to get tested and observe their health conditions.
“While I am under isolation, I will continue to monitor the country’s peace processes and vaccination efforts. I encourage the unvaccinated to get the COVID-19 jab as soon as possible, and those eligible to take their first and second booster doses,” he added.
Earlier this year, Galvez underwent isolation after getting exposed to 15 of his staff members who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
