Duterte to spend 75th birthday away from home
DAVAO CITY , Philippines – President Duterte is turning 75 years old today, but it will be a lonesome birthday.
The day is usually celebrated with his children and grandchildren. But not this year. In fact, not even a special dinner or a simple gathering is scheduled as the entire Malacañang complex has been placed on strict quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Duterte has not gone back to his home in Davao, where he usually spends his weekends, for almost a month now. He has been staying at Malacañang’s Bahay Pagbabago since the first weekend of March when he warned about the local transmission of COVID-19 in the country.
From there, he is overseeing government efforts to contain the virus, including that of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.
