MANILA, Philippines — The price of stored value Beep cards used in Metro Manila’s train systems increased by P10 starting on Wednesday.

In an advisory, the Light Rail Transit Authority, which operates the LRT Line 2, said the issuance fee for the reloadable cards rose from P20 to P30.

The LRTA said the increase in fares was pursuant to the concession agreement between the Department of Transportation and AF Payments Inc., a joint venture of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. and Ayala Corp.

When a passenger buys P100 worth of stored value Beep card, P30 would be deducted as issuance fee, leaving the value of the card at P70.

LRT commuters took to social media to protest the fare increase.

The automatic fare collection system was first implemented in 2014.

The Beep cards are used on the LRT Lines 1 and 2 and the Metro Rail Transit 3.
