ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines  Suspected Abu Sayyaf gunmen set free the nine-year-old boy held captive on Monday reportedly after payment of ransom in Sulu, authorities said.

Brig. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, Joint Task Force Sulu (JTFS) commander, said the victim, Deany Tan, was released on Monday morning to his mother at Barangay Bangkal, Patikul town.

Sobejana said the victim’s family reportedly paid P200,000 to the boy’s Abu Sayyaf captors identified as Suraka Ingug and Sonny Boy Sajirin.

Tan, a fourth grader pupil, was abducted last June 6 inside their house at Barangay San Raymundo, Jolo, the capital town of Sulu.

His release brought down the number of kidnapped victims to 25 persons, including 11 Vietnamese, seven Indonesians, a Dutch national, and six Filipinos.

The military troops also rescued last Friday Vietnamese sailor Hoang Vo, 28, who was wounded during the rescue operations in the hinterland of Ungkaya Pukan town, Basilan.

Ho was one of the six Vietnamese sailors seized by the Abu Sayyaf militants while aboard their cargo ship M/V Royal 16 off Sibagu Island, Basilan on November last year.
