Senators proud of Pacquiao for �successful match�
A number of senators on Sunday congratulated their colleagues, Sen. Manny Pacquiao for his victory.

MANILA, Philippines — A number of senators on Sunday expressed pride over the win of their colleague Sen. Manny Pacquiao against Jessie Vargas.

Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel, Sens.Win Gatchalian, Grace Poe, Migz Zubiri and JV Ejercito congratulated Pacquiao and thanked him for again bringing pride into the country.

Sen. Sonny Angara said also joined the nation in celebrating Pacquiao’s triumph and said the boxing champ’s victory is not just his but also the Filipinos’.

“Once again he showcased to the whole world the Filipino's heart and determination, that with faith in God, coupled with right focus and discipline, no battle is insurmountable no matter how difficult and extremely unbearable they may be,” Angara said in a statement.

“His latest victory over the much younger champion Jessie Vargas is indeed a victory for the Filipino people which we should all cherish and celebrate,” he added.

Angara also said he supports Pacquiao if he will push through his boxing career or opt for a retirement.

“Whether it’s time to call it quits in boxing or not, it's entirely up to you. We will always be here to support and cheer for you,” the senator said.

Likewise, Sen. Joel Villanueva who is also in Las Vegas, supported Pacquiao in his bout.

Pacquiao became the new WBO welterweight champion after beating Vargas in front of a packed crowd at the Thomas & Mack Center on Sunday (Manila time).
