DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Fountain Pen Network, an organization of fountain pen enthusiasts and hobbyists, has raised P50,000 to help in the upkeep of the 26th Philippine eaglet bred in captivity at the Philippine Eagle Center in Malagos, Calinan district in this city.

The eaglet, now a week old and initially called Chick 26, was an offspring of female Go Phoenix and male MVP Eagle. It was hatched after 56 days of incubation.

In 1992, Malagos Eagle Center produced Pag-asa, its first eagle bred in captivity.

FPN members meet regularly to share their love for fountain pens as well as organize charity or civic works.

FPN’s Romana Go brought up to her colleagues during a recent Christmas party her intention to support the Philippine Eagle Foundation by adopting Go Phoenix.

FPN Philippines’ South, meanwhile, decided that the P50,000 it has raised be allocated to Chick 26.

The donation is intended for the baby eagle’s initial needs until someone decides to formally adopt it.

At least P150,000 a year is needed for the upkeep of an eagle at the Malagos eagle center.
