MANILA, Philippines — The University of Santo Tomas (UST) has been declared safe after receiving another bomb threat on Tuesday, October 27, the second such incident this month.

In a statement Tuesday, October 27, UST said its Manila campus had been declared safe by authorities as of the morning.

"The University is actively coordinating with the Philippine National Police and related government agencies to investigate and address the safety threats circulating online. Upon recommendation from law enforcers, no evacuation order was issued," it said.

The university added that law enforcers and campus security personnel had completed their assessment and declared the campus safe for occupancy.

According to a spot report by Manila Police District Police Station 14, UST Detachment Commander Joseph Badinas and College of Rehabilitation Sciences Acting Dean Donald Manlapaz alerted law enforcement after a representative of a college-based organization received a threat through Facebook Messenger at around 6 a.m.

The sender, whose account name was "TIGER TTIGER," claimed to have overheard a conversation in a library restroom about plans to detonate explosives and carry out a shooting in three university buildings.

The report said the same account later sent messages to the UST Central Student Council at around 7 a.m. and the Central Commission on Elections at around 7:40 a.m. The account was deactivated at 7:45 a.m.

Following the 7:40 a.m. report, police personnel were dispatched at 7:45 a.m. and arrived at the buildings mentioned in the threat by 7:55 a.m.

The incident remains under investigation, according to the Manila Police District.

UST also received bomb threats on October 23 after two threatening letters were found in separate toilets inside the university's Medicine Building. Police later found no explosives on campus.
