Still more rains despite Tonyo's exit

MANILA, Philippines – Tropical depression “Tonyo” left the country yesterday but rains will still prevail over some areas in the next 24 hours, state weather forecasters said.

As of 10 a.m. yesterday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Tonyo continued to move away from Palawan towards the South China Sea.

Tonyo was spotted some 400 kilometers west of Puerto Princesa City in Palawan with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center.

Tonyo was forecast to move west-northwest at 24 kph.

Pagasa said Luzon would experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming widespread rains over Southern Palawan.

The rest of the country would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast and east would prevail over extreme Northern Luzon and its coastal waters would be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, light to moderate blowing from the northeast and east would prevail over the rest of Luzon and the eastern and southeast portions of Visayas and Mindanao regions.

Coastal waters over these areas would be slight to moderate except during thunderstorms, Pagasa said.

Tonyo was the 20th tropical cyclone to visit the country this year and the fourth in the month.
