DOH logs 99,037 ILI cases

MANILA, Philippines —  Up to 99,037 cases of influenza-like illnesses (ILI) have been recorded from January to September this year, according to the Department of Health.

DOH data showed the figure, which was recorded from Jan. 4 to Sept. 19, is 22 percent lower than the 127,148 ILI cases recorded during the same period last year.

Health officials however, noted that the case trend is increasing, with 7,427 infections reported from Aug. 23 to Sept. 5, which is 17 percent higher than the 6,334 cases reported two weeks before that or from Aug. 9 to 22.

Northern Mindanao recorded the highest number of ILI cases with 16,537 followed by Calabarzon with 14,921 and Central Visayas, 10,201.

Davao region and the National Capital Region reported 9,727 and 6,263 cases, respectively.

DOH data showed 53 deaths due to ILI, which is lower than the 59 fatalities logged last year.

Children aged five to 14 years were the most affected, accounting for 24,347 or 25 percent of the cases.

People have been reminded to get a flu vaccine to protect themselves from ILI.
