MANILA, Philippines — Controversial actor Baron Geisler said he’s now sober from alcohol for nine months as he continues to work on his recovery.

“I’m sober for nine months. Nakakatulong for me,” Baron told Philstar.com during the premiere night of Brillante Mendoza’s “Alpha: The Right to Kill” at the Director’s Club Cinema of the Podium.

“I’m doing my continuous recovery. Tomorrow balik akong Cebu, doon na ‘ko naka-based. May binuksan akong barbershop sa Gaisano. Nandoon yung core group ko and I’m really loving it in Cebu,” he added.

Despite his controversial past, Baron became part of Brillante’s film which won the Jury Prize at the San Sebastian International Film Festival in Spain last year. The movie is now showing in theaters nationwide.

Baron said he’s grateful for the trust of the award-winning director.

If I look back 10 years from now, maipagmamalaki ko talaga sa mga anak ko,” he said.

The film is set against the backdrop of the government’s campaign against illegal drugs. When asked about Brillante’s trademark in the industry, Baron said: “Katotohanan.”

Educational yung film kung tutuusin,” he added.
