Visitors flock to NHCP for public viewing of Catriona’s national costume
MANILA, Philippines— Catriona Gray's supporters on Sunday sashayed to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines for the one-day public viewing of her Miss Universe 2018 national costume.
National Quincentennial Committee earlier announced that the fourth Filipina Miss Universe agreed to open her national costume, “LuzViMinda: Magdiwang. Lumaban. Pagyamanin”, to free public viewing.
The public viewing of the iconic national costume was held at the NHCP Lobby from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
“Para sa inyo ito mga kababayan,” Gray, who is currently in New York City, said.
Gray’s costume, which weighs almost 60 kilograms, represented the entire country by instilling various historic and artistic details on the Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao regions. It featured the traditional colorful lantern or parol and was accompanied with a 16th Pintado warrior body suit designed by Jearson Demavivas.
Demavivas also designed Gray’s T’boli accessories and parol pattern design.
The following also helped in crafting the Philippine national costume for the pageant:
• Eric Quiwa – Parol or Christmas Lantern Maker for Gray’s national costume
• Rhyann Andrade – LED Lighting Designer and Installer for Gray’s national costume
• Xiao Chua – historical and cultural consultant for Gray’s national costume
• Kim Fababair, Marina Ceriola, Renee Avila – Helped in the Carlos "Botong" Francisco Mural inspired painting for Gray’s national costume
• Tomas Ramirez – Helped in the Philippine Baroque Church Design Inspired Border Design (made and designed from Apalit, Pampanga- coordinated by Mak Tumang) for Gray’s national costume
NHCP said it still has not discussed the next public viewing date for the national costume with Gray’s team.
Gray brought back the crown to the country after being named the 67th Miss Universe last December 17.
