MANILA, Philippines — Janella Salvador was honest enough to admit 2018 is not the best year in all aspects of her life.

“I hit rock bottom this year,” she confessed in an exclusive interview with this writer at Marco Polo Hotel Ortigas.

Janella is the daughter of award-winning singer Juan Miguel Salvador.

Juan Miguel, who is estranged from Janella’s mom, singer-actress Jenine Desiderio, is upbreast of the problems his daughter is facing. He knows all about Jenine’s tweets against Janella’s supposed difficult attitude.

So when Janella reached out to her aunt (Juan Miguel’s sister) to tell her that, because of “what’s happening right now,” it is the perfect time for them to finally get together again, the former Rage Band vocalist agreed.

Juan Miguel made his daughter feel free to open up to him, that he will not be judgmental. So Janella did. And Juan Miguel gave his opinion and told her that at the end of the day, “if that’s what you want (you have to) learn from it.”

This is why Janella described her parents as opposites. Her dad is reserved and quiet; her mom is fiery.

The healing between Janella and her mom, on the other hand, is slow, but steady.

”I can’t help but cry when she sent me a text to the effect that she’s always there for me, even if I don’t want to talk, that she won’t force me to talk and she won’t judge me,” recalled Janella.

The 20-year-old actress-singer was so touched, she understood her mom more. Janella realized that although she may disagree about how her mom expresses herself (e.g. her tweets), Jenine’s intentions are good.

Janella reached out to Jenine, never mind if the former risked rejection.

“At least I did my part,” explained Janella.

Instead of reacting to her mom’s tweets, she chose to remain silent because she was striving for inner peace, which she got from frequent visits to the Victory Chistian Fellowship in Greenhills, San Juan.

She has been praying a lot because of the many trials she has been going through.

“It reached a point where I didn’t know what’s in store for me. I didn’t know if I can still get back up. I realized that you have to focus on inner peace.”

Janella is looking forward to a happy Christmas with her dad, the first in a long, long time. Father and daughter are bonding through vinyl records, which both collect as a hobby.

Juan Miguel is writing a song for Janella’s upcoming album, and advised his daughter to know “what sound you should project,” so she could further establish her identity as a recording artist.

Janella, for her part, will not mind shifting gears and trying rock n’ roll for her dad’s sake.

For Janella, 2019 offers new hope. It is a time to get back on her feet and redeem herself, to bring back the fire and passion in all aspects of her career.

She has a clearer view of what she wants and what she can do.

And this time, she is as excited as ever to pick up where she left off.
