Travelling with iPhone 6: Why travel enthusiasts Chino Roque, Hannah Reyes are crazy over the Apple device

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The iPhone 6 has definitely been a travel essential to many people today. There’s no wonder to that as the Apple device features a large display, 1080 x 1920 resolution and 8-megapixel primary camera, among others, which are all essential in capturing and sharing great photos. But what kind of role does it really play in every traveler’s life?

We decided to talk to travel enthusiasts Chino Roque, the first Filipino to fly to space, and Hannah Reyes, a National Geographic explorer, to find out more about their travels and explorations and how these moments were made more wonderful using their iPhone 6.

What is your favorite destination in the Philippines and why?

Roque: As of the moment, I can say that Coron is my favorite destination, simply because I love the beach. The memories I have in Coron are irreplaceable since I travelled there with my closest friends.

Reyes: Coron is my favorite because I loved diving shipwrecks there! But Manila will always have a place in my heart.

What is your favorite Filipino food and why is it special to you?

Roque: I would say it's dinuguan, especially the crispy kind. Why? Well there are some things you just can't explain. Best with puto!

Reyes: I love adobo with itlog na maalat and kamatis. I also love fresh fish! Growing up, my Nanay made the best meals and I miss it everyday when I'm away.

If you were given the chance to travel anywhere you wish in the Philippines, what would be your ultimate dream destination and why?

Roque: I'd say Batanes, simply because I haven't been there yet, and based on the photos shared, it's hard to resist a place as rare as that.

Reyes: Tubbataha Reef is still on my list. Amazing biodiversity. I'd love to see that!

What do you like doing the most when you travel?

Roque: Just chill. What I like most is being able to do nothing and absorb everything that surrounds you. Just live in the moment.

Reyes: I love walking around. Trying to see what a place is made of. I find it so wonderful discovering things on foot and talking to people and hearing their stories!

How do you keep memories of your travels?

Roque: To be honest, what I usually do when I want to remember a moment is that I take a deep breath and close my eyes. The moment I can picture everything with my eyes closed, then I can say the moment may last forever.

Reyes: I take photographs.

What travel tips can you share?

Roque: Travel light, live simple, smile often. Don't forget to bring your manners.

Reyes: I pack light. I bring a notebook and a camera and I try my best not to compare places. I do my research but I never make itineraries on personal travel as I like to leave space for serendipity.

What is your most preferred gadget/app in capturing wonderful moments in your travels?

Roque: Instagram has been a favorite. Right now, it's Snapchat! There are no filters, no likes, no comments—just raw and actual moments happening in a touch of your finger.

Reyes: Instagram and VSCO.

How do you share the moments you have captured?

Roque: Social media has been the most-used medium for sharing moments. But I like telling stories. It's deep and it gives a good mental picture to those willing to listen.

Reyes: I share moments on Instagram and I also like seeing what people are doing too. People use it in very different ways, and I think when done well, it’s like looking through another's diary.

What kind of subject do you usually photograph?

Roque: To be honest, anything. Whatever seems to fit the moment. It may be landscape, it may be portrait, but so far I like capturing sunsets. There's just something about it that is indescribably beautiful.

Reyes: People, it allows me to ask questions.

You’re using an iPhone 6. How does it help you in your travel getaways?

Roque: The iPhone 6 has some of the most amazing features one can find in a device. It allows me to share the most precious and wonderful moments of my life through photos and social media, anytime and anywhere. With a postpaid plan from Globe, I get to maximize all the features of the phone with its offers which includes easy app purchase from iTunes without the need for a credit card.

Reyes: I love how easy it makes things for me. I love the convenience and how much it helps me plan trips, look at maps, and also how it assists me when I work. Good thing Globe offers the lifestyle bundles which provide easy access to a set of apps depending on one’s interest – whether navigation, productivity, or social.

What is the most distinctive feature of iPhone 6 that makes your travels extra memorable?

Roque: Slow motion! Closest thing to moving in zero gravity right?

Reyes: The screen! I love the big screen. For someone who's very image-heavy, I appreciate having a phone that can show me an image in amazing quality. The colors are industry-standard so I know that I'm editing with a quality device.

The iPhone 6 has indeed been a must-have device for travel lovers Roque and Reyes, especially when it comes to capturing those wonderful and precious moments and sharing them to the rest of the world through social media. Watch them explore several places in the Philippines in the videos below.
