Rufa Mae’s comic arsenal

DIRECT LINE - Boy Abunda -
Among today’s stars, Rufa Mae Quinto is the only "bombshell" with a comic arsenal that can bring the house down with her spontaneous delivery of twisted goof and quirk.

She instantly captured the moviegoers’ fancy when she played the role of a bimbo named Booba in the mega-hit movie of the same title. Suddenly, the word "booba" is in everybody’s tongue to refer to a female who is mentally-challenged or whose brains are in her boobs.

Now, Rufa Mae will go super comic as Booba goes ala-Wonder Woman in another hilarious movie: Super B, Neo Films’ official entry to the Manila Film Festival.

Get another dose of those silly but hilarious repartees as Rufa Mae plays the dual role of Bi, an ordinary girl with big dreams for her family, and of Super B, her superhero counterpart in the movie.

"Kung natawa kayo sa Booba, three times kayong mas matatawa sa Super B. Promise yan," Rufa Mae enthuses.

As Bi, she is often pressured by her parents to get married, but she knows she has better things to do than get hitched to a man she doesn’t love. She actually dreams of expanding their Jolli-Jeep, a rolling mini-canteen that does the rounds of Makati offices, into a progressive fastfood chain someday.

One day, Bi discovers that she has super powers like Wonder Woman when she wears a ring given by her persistent suitor Lording of Purings, nicknamed Lord (Marvin Agustin).

Using her super powers for the good of mankind, Super B keeps the city safe from thieves, petty criminals and the Flower Pot Girls (played by Melanie Marquez and Mylene Dizon), evil women out to disillusion the youth and influence them into doing bad deeds.

The Flower Pot Girls are the two hottest celebrities in the country and people don’t know about their real sinister characters. Rising in popularity and possessing the power that can stop them, the Flower Pot Girls plan to get rid of Super B by employing every tactic possible.

Super B
will introduce a new heroine to Filipinos in the traditions of Darna. Only this time, it will be packed with a lot of riotous laughter in the tradition of Booba.

Other stars of the film are Troy Montero, Aiza Marquez, Isabella "Duday" de Leon and many more. Super B is directed by Joyce Bernal, the mega-director who helmed the phenomenal comedy flick Booba. Screenplay is by Juan Maria Mendoza and Jane Calaje.

Super B
will be exhibited as an official entry to the Manila Film Festival on June 12.

Anjelina’s songs

Anjelina has a voice like an angel, quips an observer who had a chance to listen to her new CD. Her self-titled album banners the single Higit Sa Buhay Ko, a song of unrequited love.

"I can easily relate to the song," says Anjelina. "I loved someone before but he broke my heart. But let’s not talk about it na lang! Ha! Ha!"

Her musical influences include Regine Velasquez, Verni Varga, Lani Misalucha, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. "They’re all marvelous singers!" she enthuses.

Anjelina is a soprano and is being groomed as a country ballad singer. She started at the Hyatt Calesa Bar with Rudy Francisco accompanying her on the piano. She then went to Japan for a singing engagement and recorded a CD Single. She toured different bars in Tokyo and Kanagawa. But Anjelina got homesick and it was upon her return to the Philippines that she was offered a recording contract by 8 Records and Entertainment.

Besides Higit Sa Buhay Ko, other songs included in Anjelina’s album are Missing You, Ayoko Nang Masaktan Pang Muli, Bakit Ngayon Lang, Minsan Lang, Don’t Be Unkind. No One Loves Me Like You Do, I’ve Wasted So Much Love, Maging Sino Ka Man and Bakit Ba Ganyan.
