USPF, Froilan battle for beach volley crown

CEBU, Philippines - The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) and Team Froilan bested separate foes to secure championship tickets in the 2nd Talisay Beach Volley yesterday at the landing site in Poblacion, Talisay City.

Apple Eve Saraum of USPF and Mechelle Matuguina gained the first finals slot after trouncing Kennette Garces and Marissa Lagancia of Volleyball Addict, 25-14.

For Saraum, the tournament is part of her preparations for the 14th Nestea Fit Beach Volley Champions Cup set from April 22 to 25 in Boracay Island.

“I’m glad that we were able to reach to the finals. This is a very good preparation for me to harness my skills in this sport because I’m facing tough opposition against the best tandems in Cebu ,” said Saraum.

Team Froilan, manned by RP Team member Jusabelle Brillo and former RP Youth standout Genie Sabas, set up a titular showdown with USPF after thrashing the rookie tandem of Metosheena Bate and Suzette Panis of the University of San Carlos, 25-15.

Aside from medals and trophies, the champion will be pocket P5,000, while the second and third placers will get P3,000 and P2,000, respectively. – Marigold P. Lebumfacil   (FREEMAN NEWS)
