5th Cacoy Doce Pares world c'ships in Cebu

Cebu - Some of the finest stick-fighters around the globe will converge anew for the 10-nation 5th Cacoy Doce Pares World Eskrima Federation Championships on April 24 to 26 at the City Sports Club-Cebu.

The 89-year old Grandmaster Ciriaco “Cacoy” Cañete expects that Australia and Indonesia will be sending the biggest delegations. The rest will be fielding in at least 10 to 20 participants.

Aside from host Philippines, the competing nations in the three-day eskirma tournament and seminar are Australia, Indonesia, New Zealand, England, Poland, Germany Mexico, Canada and the United States.

The Australian contingent will be led by Master Vince Palumbo, the Indonesians will be led by Glenn Gardener, while the small group of Americans will be led by Anthony Clemans.

Cañete said more than 100 eskrimadors will visit Cebu for this international tilt.

The first two editions of the annual tilt were held in Los Angeles, California. The next one was staged in Indonesia, while the fourth was done here last year.

Meanwhile, Cañete announced that his new book entitled “Eskrima-Arnis Techniques” will be out in the market soon and will be on sale before the big eskrima event. – GGM (THE FREEMAN)
