- Marigold Lebumfacil -

Cebu - Defending champion University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) trounced the University of San Carlos (USC) in straight sets at the start of 4th Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League yesterday at the USPF gym.

The volleybelles of Coach Jordan Pacana won the match 25-8, 25-20, with Jessah Nacorda, Jinky Garidos, Dianne Navaja, Kaisse delos Santos and the Gabriel sisters, Rexamy and Louise, leading the attack.

USPF will try to make it a 3-0 slate when they go up against the University of Cebu (UC) Team A and Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School (MCCNHS) today.

Newcomer St. Theresa’s College (STC) created a stir in the tournament after upsetting Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School (MCCNHS) 25-16, 25-8.

STC unpacked the might of Mae Ann Acojedo, Angelica dela Cruz, Mayflor Judilla, Alexandra Singson and Shannon Gabiana on the hapless MCCNHS for its first win. STC will try to chalk up win number two at the expense of Don Gerardo National High School (DGNHS) this afternoon.

Meanwhile, Pajo National High School also got in the win column with a victory over Camp Lapu-Lapu National High School 25-7, 25-17.

UC Team B, on the other hand, defeated DGNHS at 25-14 and 25-5 while Abellana National School (ANS) routed Asian Learning Center (ALC) 25-14, 25-12.

The other games today pit Lilo-an versus Camp Lapu-Lapu and Asian Learning Center while USC plays UC Team B.

The 4th Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League is supported by Shakey’s and the Philippine Sports Commission. The latter is footing the bill for the trophies and medals for the winners. - THE FREEMAN
