CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Police Office is warning the public about fake money circulating this holiday season.

The police warned the possibility of reprobates who will take advantage of the occasion by spreading fake bills.

The police warned the public, especially in shops and places where many people, to always check out the money they will receive.

Fraudsters reportedly often use P1000 bills. Fake or genuine bills can easily be identified through its embossed markings, watermarks and the picture of three people on the money.

However, according to Police Lt. Col. Janette Rafter, deputy director for operations and spokesperson at the CCPO, they will coordinate with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas for tips that will help identify fake and real money.

The police will assist in giving tips to people especially in commercial areas so that no one becomes a victim of this counterfeit money.

Beat patrollers

Meanwhile, in preparation for the holiday season, the CCPO is accounting its beat patrollers.

The CCPO wants to ensure that nightly activities, including those that happen during the weekend, are orderly and safe so as not to disturb the peace and order situation in the city.

Rafter said they realigned their PNP beat patrollers so that not only the activities of the city would be monitored but also in the barangays.

"That's why we have to realign, we have to make another intervention for this," said Rafter.

The CCPO found that the deployment of beat patrollers was effective where there were no major incidents such as robbery.

“Atong gitan-aw na pud karon nga katong medyo nahilom na nga mga lugar atong i-realign didto na pud sa asa nanginahanglan so that’s why we are making inventories nga og hilom ni nga lugar atong isalig sa atong barangay then we have to move to another areas which is more of concern karong panahona,” said Rafter.

The police have already maintained on their police visibility to stop these bad people from doing bad things. — (FREEMAN)
