Teacher accused of molesting students

Romeo D. Marantal - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — At least two female students have filed complaints before Carcar City Police Station against a public school teacher for allegedly molesting them.

One of the girls, a 15-year-old Grade 8 student, revealed that on July 20, 2023 at one o'clock in the afternoon, her Mathematics teacher called her to help him with his paper works at the faculty room.

When she arrived at the faculty room, the teacher allegedly fondled her breast and swept her skirt and touched her genitals, then whispered not to make any noise.

The student was reportedly shocked as she did not expect her Math teacher to do that and that they respect him as their teacher.

At that time, the Math teacher's wife called over the phone so she had a chance to run out of the room.

After the incident, she reported to his father what her Math teacher did.

The suspect reportedly went to the student’s house and asked not to escalate the incident and offered to pay a large sum of money.

Meanwhile, another 15-year-old student also surfaced and complained that on March 30, 2023, the same teacher violated her.

She did not tell any of her classmates for fear that the Math teacher would hurt her.

She instead told her older sister about the incident.

Due to fear, the two students refused to go to their school anymore.

But the faculty president of the school assured that other teachers are going to protect them.

They will also wait for the arrival of their school principal who is still in Manila attending an event of the Department of Education for a separate investigation.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Mark Gifter Sucalit, the chief of the Carcar City Police Station, said they will file two cases of acts of lasciviousness in relation to Republic Act 7610 or the child abuse against the suspect.

"Regular filing ni siya sir nya of course sa atoang pag pasa na sa complaint we will be forwarding this to DepEd Carcar City so that we don’t want na these incidents will be repeated again kay ang trauma ani sa mga bata," said Sucalit.

The Carcar police suspected that the suspect may have other victims, as they urged them to come to their office and file complaints. — (FREEMAN)
