CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highway-7 has reported implementing 4,959 infrastructure projects amounting to almost ?152 billion in Central Visayas from 2022 to 2024.

DPWH-7 Regional Director Ernesto Gregorio Jr., speaking before the launching of Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas of the Philippine Information Office-Cebu, however admitted that some projects cannot be implemented due to right of way problems and lack of funding, especially on the payment of just compensation for affected lot owners.

But Gregorio said this has not hindered them from implementing projects. And that while these projects may cause inconvenience to the public now because of traffic, these will eventually bring convenience and economic development.

“We really ask the public for their understanding, pag-unawa talaga,” said Gregorio.

In his presentation, Gregorio also said their infrastructure projects are divided into five different categories.

First is the Organizational Outcome 1, which ensures a safe and reliable national road system. It has a total of 1,036 projects worth almost ?44.9 billion.

Organizational Outcome 1 is composed of the Asset Preservation Program, the Network Development Program, and the Bridge Program.

Second is Organizational Outcome 2, aimed at protecting lives and properties against major floods. It has a total of 461 projects implemented amounting to ?33 billion.

The flood management program deals with construction/rehabilitation of flood mitigation facilities in major river basins and principal rivers and the construction/maintenance of flood mitigation structures and drainage systems.

Third is the Convergence Program with has 453 projects implemented amounting to over ?9.5 billion.

Fourth is the Special Support Program worth ?61.6 billion with 2,987 projects being implemented.

Last is the Local Program with 96 projects implemented amounting to ?2.7 billion. — (FREEMAN)
