Some Sinulog events to stay at Fuente circle

CEBU, Philippines — The nightly entertainment and other activities leading to the Sinulog grand parade will still be held at the Fuente Osmeña even if most of the major activities will be transferred to the South Road Properties (SRP).

Councilor Philip Zafra, chairman of the Sinulog 2023 executive committee, said only the Sinulog Queen, Miss Cebu and the grand showdown will be held at the SRP. He said the usual nightly cultural activities and other entertainments like the Sinulog Idol will still be at the Fuente Osmeña.

Although there will also be activities at the Plaza Independencia to avoid overcrowding at the Fuente Osmeña.

Zafra said they have already started meeting with the police and other stakeholders to lay down a security plan. According to Zafra, they are expecting a big crowd for the Sinulog activities since it had been two years since the last Sinulog live entertainment activities were held due to the Covid-10 pandemic.

Some expected activities during the next Sinulog include live bands, Sinulog Idol, and other talent shows.

Sinulog Foundation president Engr. Ricky Dakay also revealed that aside from the nightly entertainment, merchants will also be allowed around Fuente and Plaza Independencia.

“There will be activities still at Plaza Independencia and at Fuente and all the nightly concerts will still be there…The sellers of t-shirt, tattoos, and all of that will still be there,” said Dakay.

 “But of course, we will transfer some of the festivities to the SRP …We have also agreed and we hope to use some of the new facilities at the SRP like the Sinulog Queen, Miss Cebu, and all of that,” Dakay said.

A tent city that Mayor Michael Rama wants to have will also push through to accommodate the around 2 million expected visitors and Cebuano revelers. — FPL (FREEMAN)
