Cops stop motocross event in Consolacion

Iris Hazel Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The authorities have prevented a motocross activity that would have gathered spectators and would possibly violate social distancing in Barangay Pulpugan, Consolacion, Cebu yesterday morning.

Police Major Verniño Noserale, Consolacion Police Station Chief, said it was around 11:45 a.m. when they have received information of the activity.

When the police responded, they have immediately ordered the participants and some audience to disperse immediately.

“Ato na pud gikuha ilang mga names, gi-document nato in case na mousab sila we can file appropriate charges sa ilaha at the same time if mousob sila, they will be subjected for arrest na,” said Noserale.

Noserale added that they also avoided the possibility that the activity might draw the people’s attention and would gather around to watch the event.

Quoting the statement of the participants, Nasorale said they have other interpretation of the GCQ protocols and that they believed that holding a motocross activity is allowed.

“Naa lang silay mga interpretation nga allowed sila, just like tennis and golf but nakalimtan man gud nila ang oras, naa man gud tay mga specific hours na allowed ang non-contact sports,” he added.

When the police responded, they have also noticed that most of the participants and audience were not wearing masks, also a violation to the GCQ protocols.

Nasorale added that there was one force multiplier that was part of the said activity. However, Nasorale said he did not order the arrest since they were being cooperative upon being commanded to disperse.

Nasorale also appealed to the public to cooperate, since some police personnel at the Consolacion Police Station are now isolated.  GAN (FREEMAN)
