Electrician zapped to death at Patria
CEBU, Philippines — An electrician was killed after he had accidentally touched on a live wire during a construction of the Patria de Cebu dormitory along P. Gomez, Barangay Sto. Niño, Cebu City last Wednesday night.
The victim was identified as Gilbert Getubig, a resident of Barangay Lagtang, Talisay City.
Based on the initial investigation conducted by the Waterfront police, Getubig was installing the new electrical wirings on the ceiling on the second floor of the dormitory when he accidentally touched a live wire.
According to his colleague and witness Edwin Ricafort, 37, a resident of Dawis, Barangay San Roque, Talisay City, he saw the victim holding pliers on his left hand and a junction box on the right, surrounded with wires.
The Bureau of Fire Protection and the Emergency Medical Service, led by Fire Officer 3 Estilbert Legoro immediately arrived in the area to help the victim, but Getubig was already lifeless when they arrived.
Waterfront Police Station Chief Joemar Pomarejos said they did not see any foul play involved in Getubig’s death.
He said that Getubig may have been electrocuted due to the water that seeped into the ceiling brought about by rainfall the night before.
Pomarejos said it is unfortunate and ironic for an electrician to die of electrocution.
He said that they will invite the contractor of the ongoing construction to determine if the victim had proper training.
He said that the contractor may be held liable for Getubig’s death.
“According to our witness, ang engineer daw mao nagpadala niya sa site. Sa atong investigation karon although wala ta’y foul play nga nakita, automatic nga manubag ani ang contractor ug ang Patria,” he said.
Pomarejos said they will be waiting for the family member of Getubig, if they would be interested to file charges. — GAN (FREEMAN)
