Iris Mariani B. Algabre - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Talisay City Jail Warden Supt. Gil Inopia had been relieved effective yesterday. He was replaced by his wife, Chief Inspector Mary Jane Inopia.

Gil said he was ordered by the national headquarters of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology to undergo the Public Safety Officers Senior Executive Course. The couple paid a courtesy call on Mayor Eduardo Gullas yesterday morning.

The mayor assured the incoming warden that the city government will continue to extend its usual support to the city jail. Gullas said it also does not matter for him if the new warden is a female. In fact, the mayor said it is an advantage that she is the wife of the outgoing warden.

"Tanan knowledge sa husband can be conveyed hasta ang probable solutions to the wife," Gullas said.

Gil’s leadership in the Talisay City Jail had been tested several times. In fact, there were four strafing incidents in the city jail under his watch.

The outgoing warden believes that the incidents were triggered by his strict implementation of the visiting rules. Gil personally thanked the local government unit for helping him realized his programs, including the installation of nets around the facility.  The incoming warden said she is aware of the problem and had been briefed by her husband about it. She promised to continue what her husband has started.

Mary Jane was the chief of Personnel and Records Management Division and Human Resource Division of BJMP-7 before her appointment to Talisay.

She was previously assigned as warden in Consolacion in 2006 before becoming the assistant warden of Cebu City Jail Minor Dormitory and Cebu City Jail Female Dormitory. — FPL (FREEMAN)
