Jose Rodel Clapano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A student from the Southwestern University and two others from the University of Cebu-Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue Campus were among those who topped the recent 2016 Licensure Examination for Teachers.

Allan Rey Pajo Cagadas from SWU claimed the fourth spot with a rating of 89.80% and UC-LM's Kent Apa Hiyas and Kimberly Hope Ondoy Largo landed in the ninth place with 87.60% rating.

Hiyas, in an interview, said he never wanted to become a teacher but later on learned to love the profession, inspired by his aunts who were all teachers.

Preparing for the examinations was quite a challenge, he said, especially that he actually aimed to top the exam.

"Challenge 'na siya pag-una pero nakaya sad nako. Mao sad jud na siya ang nag-push nako sa akong limits para ma-possible nako nga maabot akong desire nga topnotcher. Naa ju'y mga sleepless nights, as in, mao'na nga agonizing," he said.

Hiyas then advised his fellow youth to continue studying and learn to appreciate their parents' hardwork and sacrifices.

"'Nya dili ko maka-promise nga perfect ko nga teacher, but I will be a teacher nga naa jud bitaw heart ug mobuhat jud ug mo-perform," he added.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the Board for Professional Teachers (BPT) announced yesterday that 12,128 elementary teachers out of 42,739 examinees (28.38%) and 18,810 secondary teachers out of 53,090 examinees (35.43%) successfully passed the LET held on March 20 in 20 testing centers nationwide. — (FREEMAN)
