Police: Dutchman was murdered

Ma. Fatima R. Secuya/FPL - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The homicide investigators have ruled out the possibility of a suicide in the death of a Dutch national who was found bloodied inside his pension house room last week.

Senior Police Officer 2 Wetzel Berry, one of the investigators, said they were certain that Dieter Friedrich Meyer, 66, was murdered. In fact, the police believe that it was done by more than one person.

“Bilib ta nga di gyud ni binuhatan sa usa ka tawo. Mga two or more ana ang nagbuhat sa crime,” said Berry.

Berry said they have already investigated the victim’s girlfriend who claimed that she went to the pension house last Friday supposedly to return Meyer’s iPhone.

The girlfriend claimed that Meyer did not answer when she knocked on the door, prompting her to leave and just left the phone at the pension house staff.

The girlfriend’s statement was confirmed by the pension house staffers. The police, however, said the girlfriend is not yet off-the-hook as investigators continued to look into the case.

Berry said they are expecting the results of the autopsy and other laboratory examinations within the week.

Meyer was found dead last Saturday inside his pension house room in Barangay Kamputhaw. He sustained wound to the head and several bruises in his body. His injury in the head may have been caused by a blunt object.

His mouth was also plugged with cloth and his room was in disarray suggesting struggle. The police also found a piece of wood and a stone at the crime scene, which could have been used in hitting the victim’s head.

The items are now in the custody of the crime scene investigators for latent prints lifting and DNA. (FREEMAN)
