Guard rescued after jumping off bridge

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A 20-year-old security guard jumped off the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge yesterday morning but was rescued to safety.

The guard was identified as Reymart Magos, a resident of Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City and employed with Bluebreed Security Agency.

Initial information gathered by the police did not indicate why Magos jumped off the bridge, only that he did so when he was on his way to Lapu-Lapu City after his duty in Mandaue City around 7 a.m.

Luckily, residents living near the 'Bantayan sa Hari' saw Magos jump off and went to his rescue.

He was reportedly unconscious when fetched off the water, prompting the residents to call the Accident Control and Emergency Rescue Team (ACERT) for help. It was ACERT personnel that brought Magos to the hospital.

PO2 Nino Gorneo and PO1 Crisanto Sudio said Magos did not sustain any injury but would not issue any statement, but a relative said Magos has been drinking liquor since Tuesday and refused to share his problems.

He also reportedly just walked to the bridge from his workplace in Mandaue City before he jumped off the bridge.  (FREEMAN)
