Rama: It’s Sinulog of thanks

Jessa Agua - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Even after two calamities struck the Visayas, Sinulog 2014 will remain as festive as it is known to be, said Mayor Michael Rama yesterday.

“We shouldn’t be dwelling on having Sinulog as less festive. Mura nasad tag walay Sinulog. Because Sinulog should bring life for all. Should give hope for everyone,” Rama said.

“It is better that we should have Sinulog. The more we should have Sinulog. I call it a Sinulog of thanksgiving,” Rama told reporters.

As an event that pays homage to the Child Jesus, Rama said the Sinulog must also remain as a “gathering of all prayers, bringing what faith and bring us all to be united with God.”

Rama shared his thoughts with the media amid reports of few out of town contingents joining the Grand Parade next month following the massive earthquake last October 15 and super typhoon last November 8.

These two calamities caused some out of town contingents to beg off from joining the Grand Parade, including the town of Abuyog, Leyte, which has won in the Free Interpretation Category. The town has started preparing since July, but the mayor said the typhoon changed their plans.

Earlier, Sinulog Foundation Chairman Ricky Ballesteros said quake-battered Bohol province will be sending a contingent via unharmed Panglao Island.

Mindanao contingents include Lanao del Norte, Plaridel town and Tangub City from Misamis Occidental, and Cotabato. – (FREEMAN)
