Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Police are checking three cellular phones owned by lovers Leodita Cañete and Nerio Tangcawan in the hope finding messages that may give clues as to the real reason for their death.

The couple were found dead inside the servant’s quarter of Cañete’s house in Barangay Yati, Liloan Monday morning.

The cellular phones, an Android phone, a Nokia C300 and a Nokia 1280, were sent to the Digital Forensic Crime Laboratory of the Anti-Cyber Crime Group (ACG)-7.

â€œMaybe there could be a text message that triggered the shooting,” Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Patrocinio Comendador said.

Senior Insp. Michael Virtudazo, ACG Chief, had said time needed to extract files in cellular phones may vary depending on the kind of phone.

Android phones take more time as compared to ordinary phones.

The couple sought for security protection at the Liloan Police Station after they received a death threat allegedly from Danilo Berezo, 37, of Barangay Yati, Liloan.

Berezo is allegedly is having an affair  with Cañete.

Cañete and Tangcawan slept in the servant’s quarter but they were found dead the following morning.

Police theorized that it was Tangcawan who killed Cañete who sustained an injury in the head based on autopsy results.

She also had scratches in her body and sustained three gunshots in her back while Tangcawan had a gunshot wound in his right temple.

Recovered from the crime scene were two deformed slugs, two bullets, four empty cartridge, .357 handgun, four teeth and shreds of skin.

Police are now waiting for the results of the ballistic examination and paraffin tests on Berezo and on the two victims. — (FREEMAN)
