Minor landslides in 2 city mountain barangays

- Jessica Ann R. Pareja -

CEBU, Philippines - Two minor landslides occurred in separate mountain villages in Cebu City yesterday but no serious damage was reported in both property and life.

The landslides blocked a portion of the access roads in Toong and Binaliw enough for small vehicles to pass.

Cebu City Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Executive Director Alvin Santillana said they already sent heavy equipment to clear the affected areas.

The LDRRMC received the report of landslides yesterday morning but Santillana said the incident in Toong happened last Sunday. The affected area in Toong is an access road to Barangay Pamutan.

LDRRMC reported that about five trees fell on the road making it dangerous for passing vehicles. About 50 meters stretch of the barangay road in Toong was partially blocked.

LDRRMC said no houses were damaged while there are no houses located within the immediate danger zone that require evacuation. The Cebu City Government reminded the public, especially those living in sloping areas to be vigilant and evacuate immediately for any sign of ground movement that could lead to landslide.

As of yesterday, Tropical Depression “Juaning” continues to bring rains in the Visayas, Southern Luzon and Western Mindanao.

Residents living near the rivers were told to stay alert as heavy rains might cause the river to overflow and flashflood. (FREEMAN)
