Vidal visits Sanchez in hospital

-

CEBU, Philippines - Retired Cebu archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal visited the ailing Vice Governor Gregorio “Greg” Sanchez, Jr. yesterday at the hospital where he was admitted after being diagnosed with lung cancer.

Sanchez’s nephew Busay, Cebu City barangay captain Eliodoro “Yody” Sanchez said Vidal was just visiting and talked to the daughters of the vice governor.

Yody said Vidal advised Greg’s daughters, Grecilda “Gigi” Sanchez- Zaballero and Gerlyda “Gerly” Sanchez–Spiller, to pray and rely on God’s intervention for the speedy recovery of their father.

Yody recalled how happy Vidal was about Greg’s radio program aired over Bantay Radyo which he owns.

Greg was awarded by the Cebu Archdiocesan Mass Media Awards for “Best Developmental Radio Commentaries” for his radio programs “Bulawanong Binhi”, “Ang Magpupugas” and “Kalambuan”.

Sanchez was also able to air his pre-recorded interpretation of the third of the seven last words of Jesus during last Friday’s Siete Palabras aired over Bantay Radyo.

Yody said it was recorded last year before Greg lost his voice last January prior to the diagnosis of his illness.

“Bisan ako naglawig sa kangitngit og walog sa kamatayon, dili ako mahadlok kay anaa ang Labawng Makagagahom,” a portion of Greg’s words said.

The family of Greg is calling on their friends to pray for him as he is fighting hard and not giving up.

Meanwhile, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia reminded Cebuanos that there is hope to achieve unity amongst the officials and the people as the faithful observes Easter Sunday today.

“We are getting there, I believe. You are seeing this in Cebu. It may not be a perfect unity but certainly we are seeing harmony and cohesiveness amongst most of our officials and amongst most Cebuanos,” Garcia said.

During Holy Thursday, Garcia made her annual “visita iglesia” in 21 southern Cebu churches.

Garcia said she prayed for the continued protection of Cebu, for continued guidance, enlightenment, graces and blessings for her to be able to lead the province to even greater heights of progress and development.

Garcia was joined by some Capitol and town officials in praying the rosary in each church she stopped.

The visita iglesia also gave her the chance to thank the Lord for how far Cebu has come and being protected from disasters and catastrophes. — /BRP (FREEMAN)
