Political supporter gets death threats

- Jose P. Sollano -

CEBU, Philippines - A barangay leader of sixth district congressional aspirant Gabriel “Luigi” Quisumbing allegedly received death threats from a man claiming to be against members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army.

Labogon barangay councilman Fructuoso Agbay of Mandaue City went to the National Bureau of Investigation yesterday morning to ask for assistance.

Agbay brought with him two letters sent to him last April 5.

The two letters, both written in Cebuano, were signed by a certain Ferdinand Morales. The letter bears his address as Macopa Ext., Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City, the other said Barangay Talamban, Cebu City.

“Mura og dili matinud-anon ang imong plano nga pagsilbi sa nasud. Amo nga napamatud-an nga gapadayon ka sa imong pakipag-alyansa sa mga kaaway sa demokrasya, ang CPP/NPA. Klaro kaayo sa imong gidawat, gi-uyunan ug gisunod ang mga hiwi ug sayop nga idolohiyang Komunismo,” the first letter read.

“Ug tungod niini, among gipadangat kanimo kining “itom nga laso” uban niining sulat aron imong masayran nga ang imong kinabuhi, uban sa imong pamilya, hinulaman ra niining kalibutan,” it continued.

The second letter received by Agbay also stated his alleged association with the CPP/NPA and warned him to stop his activities.

Agbay is actively helping the candidacy of Quisumbing for the congressional post in the sixth district of Cebu. — THE FREEMAN
