Pagasa sees 25 storms entering RP this year

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration or Pagasa has predicted that at least 25 tropical depression and storms will enter the country this year.

Pagasa Mactan meteorologist Jun Amarillo said yesterday that they have already named the expected storms as Tropical Depression/cyclones Basyang, Caloy, Domeng, Ester, Florita, Gloria, Henry, Inday, Juan, Katring, Luis, Melenio, Neneng, Ompong, Paeng, Queenie, Reming, Senyang, Tomas, Osman, Venus, Waldo, Yayang and Zeny.

Tropical depression Agaton already hit the country recently wherein Pagasa hoisted public storm warning signal No. 1 over Eastern and Western Samar provinces and Homonhon Island as Tropical Depression Agaton heads west-northwest toward Eastern Visayas.

Amarillo said that Central Visayas will be safe from the threat of Agaton as it is seen already going far from the province.

Agaton's center was noted at 180 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph. It was moving west-northwest at 11 kph.

Amarillo said Agaton is expected to be 150 kilometers north of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, or 120 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar, by tomorrow morning and 40 kilometers southwest of Masbate by Wednesday morning.

On Thursday morning, Agaton is expected to be at 30 kilometers south of San Jose in Mindoro Occidental.

PAGASA warned residents in areas under storm signal No. 1 of possible flashfloods and landslides.
