Comfortable — and Fashionable

CEBU, Philippines - Everyone are just raring to go somewhere at this time of the year. The common destinations are the nearby beaches. Although some may also opt to go on the longer, real trip. Wherever the destination and whatever the planned activities, the need to feel comfortable and look fashionable is ever present.

This can be a problem especially among girls. Well, actually, boys are into it as well. The challenge for all is for pieces that are okay but not expensive.

A good suggestion for ideal summer wear is breezy, free-flowing or loose tops paired with plain or tattered denim shorts. Tops like those allow for more air, thus giving a fresh and comfy feeling. Denim shorts made from cotton are breathable and very absorbent; they also allow for free movement in fun summer activities, like trekking, mountain climbing etc.

Seersucker is also good material; even the synthetic kind of this fabric lifts off the skin and lets air circulate. For a less formal look, rolling up the sleeves and unevenly tucking in the edges of the shirt does it. To complete the look, bright accessories may be added; and slipping into wedges props up the user to a bit of extra height.

A more girly look can be achieved with floral maxi dresses, which can be paired with either flat sandals or wedges depending on what footwear is comfortable to wear with this type of dress. Maxi skirts, unlike maxi dresses, can be paired with a variety of tops and shoes, so long as the whole set conforms to the nature of the summer activity in mind. The thing to remember is that being comfortable is more important than looking fashionable.

A good pair of footwear is equally important, not only to get the outfit together but also to complement the type of adventure to do. For example, a pair of flip flops suits island or beach activities. For strolling in the city, sneakers or espadrilles are good for exploring the city surroundings. If parties are part of the summer schedule, then wedges or high-heeled sandals can complete the get-up. The right footwear can help achieve either a sophisticated or casual look, without sacrificing comfort.

Accessories give more life and character to the outfit. A pastel colored sling bag can add flair to a plain white button-down shirt atop matching denim jeans. The purpose of accessories is to complement the outfit and not to trash it.

A total wardrobe change is not really necessary in order to go trendy in summer. A little creative mix-and-match of pieces already found in the closet can save both anxieties and extra spending. In the end, a good outfit is one that's comfortable to wear.
