MANILA, Philippines — Walang tigil sa pag-arangkada ang pagtaas ng presyo ng bilihin nitong Enero 2023 matapos itong pumalo sa 8.7%, ang pinakamataas simula Nobyembre 2008 sabi ng Philippine Statistics Authority, Martes.

Mas mataas ito kumpara noong Disyembre 2022, kung kailan pumalo ang presyo ng sibuyas sa 720/kilo kasabay ng Kapaskuhan, panahon kung kailan pinakamahal ang bentahan nito sa buong mundo.

"Headline inflation in the Philippines continued its uptrend as it accelerated further to 8.7% in January 2023, from 8.1% in December 2022," wika ng PSA sa isang pahayag.

"The January 2023 inflation is the highest annual rate recorded since November 2008. In January 2022, inflation was lower at 3.0%."

Primarya itong itinulak ng mas mataas na year-on-year increase sa index ng pabahay, tubig, kuryente, gas atbp. panggatong sa 8.5%, mula sa 7% lang noong Disyembre.

Sinundan ito ng pagkain at hindi nakalalasing na inumin sa 10.7%, mula sa 10.2% bago magtapos ang taong 2022.

Mas mataas ang January inflation kumpara sa naunang pagtataya ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas na nasa 8.3% lang. Lalo itong mas mataas sa projection ni ING Bank senior economist Nicholas Mapa na nasa 7.8% lang.
