Pagpapalawak pa sa National broadband kailangan
MANILA, Philippines - Higit na kailangan ng publiko at ng mga kumpanya ng private telecoms na mapalawak pa ang national broadband project upang maihatid ang mahusay na serbisyo sa iba’t ibang panig ng bansa.
Ito ang sinabi ni Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Rodolfo Salalima sa isang media forum sa QC, makaraang aprubahan ni Pangulong Duterte ang improvement ng internet speed sa Pilipinas at tuloy mabigyan ng maayos na access ang mamamayan sa internet gayundin sa malalayo at liblib na lugar sa ating bansa.
“We need the national broadband network as a way to lower costs and help out in rendering services to the public,” dagdag ni Salalima.
Ayon naman sa isang academic research paper ng UP Professor Emeritus Epictetus Patalinghug na may pamagat na Assessment of the Structure, Conduct, and Performance of the Philippine Telecommunications Industry, na ang pamahalaan ang tanging realistic third player na gagawa ng mga paraan na makalikha ng tinaguriang ‘last-mile’ network na hindi financially viable sa mga private operators na tutupad nito.
Nakasaad sa research paper na ang isang private third player ay mahihirapang makopo ang financial viability sa maikling panahon dahil sa kanilang late-mover disadvantage.
Itoy dahil kailangan pa nilang ma-penetrate ang mga underveloped areas na ang deployment costs ay mataas kaysa sa mga saturated urban markets na na-dominate na ng mga incumbents.
“The market realities of capital intensity, sunk costs and economies of network size therefore prevent a realistic entry of a private third player,” pahayag ni Patalinghug.
“We hope to lay the groundwork — so telcos can come in and begin to offer much-needed internet services to the residents there,” sabi pa ni Salalima.
