Diptyque holiday collection is available at Diptyque boutiques and Rustan's.

If you’re wondering why Diptyque candles are worth so much, consider this: while other candlemakers work with factory scents that you’ve definitely sniffed before, Diptyque goes the extra mile. For it’s 2016 holiday collection, that extra something came in the form of 3,000 pounds of gingerbread — a recipe created and concocted at their HQ in Paris. There were much easier ways to get a gingerbread scent, but for Diptyque, baking it, doing taste tests with employees all over the world, and extracting essential oils from the best batch, is the only way. One executive at Diptyque Philippines had the honor of being part of this taste test, and she says the Épices Délices candle (red) from the holiday collection smells exactly as the gingerbread tasted then.

Épices Délices (Delicious Spices) has sparkling star anise, comforting cinnamon and warm notes of honey blended together to make a scent that captures the festive holidays.

Le Roi Sapin (The Festive Fir Tree) is a pine-fresh scent that fits its metallic green jar, a combination of woody tones that include resin, cedar and patchouli.

Un Encens Étoilé (Sparkling Incense) is a crystalline scent of elemi (sourced from the Philippines), spicy cloves and sweet vanilla.

The graphic illustrations on the packaging, as well as Japanese-inspired paper theater, were created by artist Piere Marie, who has been working closely with the brand (he also designed their upcoming Valentine’s Day candles to be launched next year). Inspired by the Pollock Theater and artifacts from the Diptyque archive, Pierre illustrated a story (“A Night at Diptyque”) in which, just after a snowstorm hits Paris, a man named Henri finds himself stuck in his shop at 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain.

Henri is a real person and has been store manager at Diptyque 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain for years. In Diptyque’s story, Henri’s shop is transformed into a theater and he discovers the three holiday scents with the help of a little character who magically appears before him.

So when you light a Diptyque candle, you’re not just burning wax. You’re tasting cookies. You’re spending the night at 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain. You’re smelling a story.
