Standhardinger shines again

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Christian Standhardinger turned in another double-double performance as Hong Kong Eastern repeated over Tanduay Alab Pilipinas, 99-96, in the ASEAN Basketball League Wednesday night at the Southern Stadium in Hong Kong.

Standhardinger, the key figure in the controversial trade deal after the recent PBA Draft, fired 25 points, including a pair of three-pointers in the fourth quarter that helped anchor the host team’s victory. The Fil-German also hauled down 12 rebounds and capped another superb game with four assists.

The 6-7 Standhardinger also shot 26 points in leading HK past Alab, 93-89, in the season opener at the MOA Arena last Nov. 19.

In their second face-off, HK rallied from 10 points down to frustrate Alab and extend its win run to five.

Thai-Am Tyler Lamb exploded with a career-high 32 points highlighted with five triples.

Trailing by three points with 11 seconds to go in the match, Alab had a chance to force overtime with a triple but Josh Urbiztondo missed a wide-open attempt from the long range.

The defeat, their third straight, sent the Filipinos to the bottom of the nine-team field.

The Filipinos try to snap the skid as they play the Formosa Dreamers at the Changhua Stadium, in Changhua City, Chinese Taipei tomorrow.

The scores:

Hong Kong Eastern 99 – Lamb 32, Standhardinger 25, Elliott 20, Lee 12, Moss 6, Xu 2, Tang 2, Lau 0

Quarterscores: 20-23, 43-46, 64-66, 99-96
