VIGAN, Ilocos Sur, Philippines — Archer Bryan Eugenio and swimmer Jalil Taguinod completed their five-gold medal haul while Tara Borlain blew the opposition in the girls’ 1500m run to finish with three golds in the Luzon leg of the Batang Pinoy at the President Quirino Stadium here yesterday.

Eugenio topped the 30m, 40m, 50m distance events and ruled the 1440 round in cub boys’ category before teaming up with Allysa Felipe to clinch the mixed team gold.

Taguinod matched that five-gold feat by dominating the 50m and 200m breaststroke, 200m individual medley, 50m backstroke and the 100m breast in 1:16.27 to emerge the most bemedaled swimmer at the close of the talent search.

Pasig’s Borlain, 14, also hogged the spotlight as she posted a five-minute, seven-second clocking to beat Lheslie de Luna of Camarines Sur (5:15.27) and Dasmariñas City’s Charmaine Deocampo (5:18.84).

While her three mints paled in comparison with Eugenio and Taguinod’s, Borlain produced the worthiest performance in the weeklong event after her spectacular record-breaking performance in the 800m.

The former IronKids champion clocked 2:15.49, eclipsing the three-year-old mark of 2:19.56 set by Leyte’s Feiza Lenton as well as the current Palarong Pambansa record of 2:17.2 posted by Aklan’s Anjelica de Josef four years ago.
