New Pocari coach adjusting to non-military style

MANILA, Philippines — Newly minted head Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors coach Rico de Guzman said he is still adjusting to his new role.
"Ako pa munang nag-aadjust ngayon, unti-unti lang muna. Sa susunod maaadapt nila yung pagiging military," De Guzman said after his team beat the UP Lady Fighting Maroons, 21-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-21, in the 2017 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference Tuesday.
De Guzman, who steered the Philippine Army Lady Troopers to multiple crowns, added that the biggest difference between coaching a civilian and a military squad is the discipline.
"Yung sa military, talagang military yan eh, andyan yung discipline. Lahat ng igagalaw pang military talaga," De Guzman said.
"[Sa Army] Pag nag-bigay ka ng time, andun sa eksaktong time, itong mga civilian hindi natin maoobliga," he added.
He assumed the position after three-time champion head coach Rommel Abella was promoted as the team's director for player development.
Reinforced conference Finals MVP Myla Pablo led the team with 18 points while Kasilag added 15.
