SSC-R to stage 5th Stags Run in January

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – San Sebastian College-Recoletos Manila will hold the 5th Stags Run scheduled on January 25 next year at Rajah Sulayman in Baywalk, Roxas Boulevard with hopes of generating funds for its missionary missions here and abroad.

Rev. Fr. Joel Alve, OAR, San Sebastian's vice president for student welfare and overall chair of the race, said he expects the annual event, which starts at 6 a.m. and divided in 3k, 5k and 10k categories, to surpass the 4,000 runners who raced last year.

“We intend to match, if not surpass, the more than 4,000 participants who attended in 2014.  This way, we shall be able to sustain the implementation of our pastoral ministry and missions, we also expect that this will be more fun as we are having our very first color run," said," Alve.

"I'm calling for the participation of the school community, friends and alumni to again make this event a meaningful and successful one," he added.

San Sebastian, which champions quality, Catholic, Christian education, is organizing the race to encourage not just its alumni and community but guest participants as well to stay healthy and competitive while pushing them towards helping charitable missions in 2015.

This year's race is specifically raising funds and for its missions in Africa by theb Ebola virus that devastated people there.

The Stags Run will also highlight the school's 74th Founding anniversary that will be celebrated from Jan. 20 to 15 using a theme "Fruits of Greatness: The Manifestations of Love are the Threshold of Wisdom."

Conceived as “Takbo Para sa Misyon”, this first run in 2011 was able to accumulate funds supporting the missionary works of the Order of Augustinian Recollects (OAR) in Sierra Leone, Africa and in the Cascian Island in Palawan through media evangelization and educational apostolate.

Running for the next sprint, “Takbo Para sa Edu-Misyon”, the institution was able to further its educational mission and stage the different outreach programs in 2012.

The third and fourth leg led the community and supporters to hype the “Takbo Para sa Bokasyon” and “Stags Charity Run” which intended to obtain funds for the support of vocations to the priestly and religious life in the Order of Augustinian Recollects.
