Nippon’s Colour Creations App lets you color your world

Tanya T. Lara - The Philippine Star

Ever thought how your home would look like with a bold red wall or a sunny yellow? Nippon Paint’s Colour Creations app lets you

visualize your space with any color or texture you want.

MANILA, Philippines - So you’ve just moved into a new condominium unit or decided to refresh your family home. Painting the walls in a different color is probably the first decision that gets you most excited and the last one that you find yourself wanting to do — because, really, it’s hard to decide on what color can you live with for years?

Do you play it safe with white or beige, or do you just splash your walls with the colors that promote positive emotions like orange, purple and pink?

Then there’s texture and sheen. Anyone who has ever gone to a Wilcon Home Depot or a hardware store is faced with that choice standing in front of shelves of paint color and kind.

Nippon Paint’s Colour Creations App now makes it easy for you. With a swipe of your fingertips, it lets you visualize how your own walls will look with over a thousand colors.

Nippon Paint Malaysia Group general manager Gladys Goh was in Manila recently to introduce the app to our market. “We wanted the process of selecting paint easy, something that  people can do from the comfort of their homes,” she says. “Now with the app — available free on Google and iTunes — they can choose colors together with their family members because we feel that choosing color for your home is a family decision. It’s not just your decision but everybody’s.”

Well, no, Gladys. It’s the woman’s decision.

But, anyway, yes it’s your decision especially if you’re living on your own, which really doesn’t make it any easier. But now you can ask your friends to weigh in on the colors.

Just take a picture of the rooms you are painting and upload them on your iPad or phone, and you can “test” the paint on the walls just by swiping the color chip to the wall. Not only that, if you’re thinking of changing the upholstery in, say, your living room and the curtains, you can also drag the color chip to these things and they will instantly change colors.

Gladys says the app had been downloaded more than 10,000 times after only two months.

All the colors on the app you can get from Nippon’s partner home depots and hardware stores. “The app is for you to visualize, but ultimately you need to choose from a color chip because that’s from real paint.  First, download the app, play with colors, select and then go to the nearest Nippon Paint Colour Creations outlet to get a color card. Nippon's color cards feature deposited color chips using actual paint so that what you see is what you will get. And the best part is they are given out freely to take home.

“Let’s say you want to paint your study area, you come to Wilcon with a picture of your room and you say I want this in blue so you buy one can of paint and then go home. The process ends. But when I ask you to take this color card home with you, you now have the time to choose without the pressure of making a decision right away. You look at the color card and realize that the color you chose for your study is better in your dining room — or your daughter says she wants another color for her bedroom.

“Some people come to the store to buy one can of paint but because of the app, they go back to the store and buy five or six cans instead because they are inspired and unafraid to use color.”

Gladys’ advice to homeowners about to refresh their homes: “Be adventurous and have fun, create a little more excitement in your home. With the Nippon Paint Colour Creations app, you don’t have to choose safe colors anymore.”
