DENR Region 7 lauds Cemex for water advocacies

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Apo Cement Corp. was recently recognized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) Region 7 for supporting and conducting an orchestrated clean-up of water bodies in Central Visayas.

Apo Cement, a member of the CEMEX Philippines Group of Companies, was commended for its efforts in cleaning up the coast of South Poblacion, City of Naga. The cement corporation also provided personal protective equipment for volunteers’ use. Moreover, Apo participated in the water summit by sharing sustainable programs that will preserve water bodies and protect them from harmful wastes.

“Your efforts and resources shared would certainly go a long way for the conservation of the environment – recovering what is lost and protecting what is left for generations to come,” said engineer William Cunado, EMB Region 7 director in a letter to the cement company.

“Receiving a citation for the company’s environmental programs and activities especially from the regulating agency makes us strive to do even more. For us, this means that the results of Apo Cement’s programs are producing positive results not just to the environment but also to the people in surrounding communities who are our stewards of nature,” said Jenevy Patalingjug, Apo Cement’s environment, health, and safety officer.

Apo Cement’s environmental programs are in line with the initiatives of EMB Region 7 in pursuing a sustainable and safe environment for everyone.
