Entrance test for aspiring law students set on Sunday

MANILA, Philippines - A uniform entrance test for aspiring law students will be held in 10 locations across the country on April 16.

The Legal Education Board (LEB) will administer for the first time the Philippine Law School Admission Test (PhiLSAT), which will be a requirement for admission in any law school in the country starting this academic year.

The exam will be administered in Metro Manila, Baguio, Legazpi, Cebu, Iloilo, Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Tacloban, Bacolod and Zamboanga.

In a memorandum issued last December, the LEB said the PhiLSAT aims to improve the quality of legal education in the country through a nationwide uniform entrance exam.

“The PhiLSAT shall be designed as a one-day aptitude test that can measure the academic potential of the examinee to pursue the study of law. It shall test communications and language proficiency, critical thinking skills, and verbal and quantitative reasoning,” the memorandum said.

The board set the passing score at 55 percent, although law schools can accept applicants who scored lower this year as part of the transitory phase.

The passing score requirement will be strictly enforced starting 2018.
