Silken Voices

OH YES, IT'S JOHNNY! - Johnny Litton - The Philippine Star

Elegantly dressed guests were treated to an odyssey of opera, cuisine and couture via “Silken Voices, Silken Roads: An Opera Gala Dinner” held at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila’s Grand Ballroom recently.

The successful affair, which marked the start of the hotel’s second anniversary celebration, commemorated the legendary Venetian explorer Marco Polo’s 24-year journey along the Silk Road.

The banquet of savory and brilliantly inspired dishes prepared by executive chef Lluis Pesarrodona from various cuisines was accompanied by selections from Western to Eastern music as performed by tenor Francisco Aseniero, Asia’s Got Talent 2015 second runner-up Gerphil Flores and the Philippine Opera Company.

Rounding up the soulful music and gastronomic treat was a feast for the eyes — elegant and intricately-designed pieces from the Venetian collection of prominent fashion designer Renee Salud.

We are grateful to Marco Polo Ortigas Manila general manager Frank Reichenbach, director of restaurants, bars and events Mirko de Giorgi and director of marketing communications Judith Los Baños for hosting an event that allowed us to travel from East to West in one night — what a fascinating journey.
